The annual Charity Day was played last Wednesday with Friends in Common being our chosen recipient for this year. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved we raised just over $5129 for this local charity.
This was a combination of raffle proceeds, novelty event sales and the sponsorship of the day from Coca-Cola to the value of $2000!
On Tuesday the men generously purchased $1200 worth of raffle tickets and reaped the rewards by winning 8 of the 9 raffle prizes.
On to the golf... 91 players took part in a 4BBB novelty game with shortened tees on two holes and ribbons to get you out of trouble or to give you a 5 pointer when you needed it most.
Our A grade winners with a great score of 68 points were Joanne Ryan and Maree Old. Runners up were Lorraine Christie and Tania Zentveld with 67 points.
B Grade was won by Carolyn Willett and Susan Twamley with 66 points while Janine Walker and Libby Kellock were runners up with 63 points.

YMGCR Men’s Nine Holes
Tuesday saw the group playing everyone’s favourite game of par, and on the Blue course Ray Scott showed why he enjoys this format with a superb score of +4 to take the win. Daryl Haden came close in second place with +3, edging out Stuart Nixon (+2) and a conga line of golfers claiming ball prizes on +1, namely Trev “Fizza” Pellegrino, Dom Fotia, Ian Nakervis, Ted Latta, Ron Dawson and Keith Murray.
On the Red course, Paul Byrne took the honours with a +2 after practising the previous day with the Motleys. He edged out Rod Sissons and Craig Thurston, who both finished on +1. Ball prizes went to Phil Howard (even), while Normie Knott, Bill Hidson and Glenn “Diesel” Perkins finished on -1, and Graham Brookes and Len Ellis scored -2.
Thursday’s overcast and damp conditions made scoring trickier, but Bill Wyatt took the honours on the Blue with a solid 20 points, edging Peter “Keno” Dowie (19) by a point. Rod Sissons led a four-way countback on 17 from Steve Ambrose, Len Ellis and John Dixon, while Graham “Honest” Brookes, Phil Dean and Norm Coleman claimed the ball prizes.
On the Red course, Gary Tribe’s 19 points were enough to win the day, with Ray Douglas taking runner-up honours after leading a three-way countback from Steve Williamson and Ray Pritchard, all on 17.
Ball prizes went to Frank Mundy, Peter Mansfield, Peter Ferguson, Omar Persaud and Ray French.
It was good to see John Mason up and about again, and thanks go to everyone who stepped up in his absence to keep things running smoothly.
