Among the biggest beneficiaries in the region is Tullaroop Reservoir, which will receive 10,000 bonus trout on top of its 2026 allocation of 42,000, making it one of the standout destinations for local fishing this season.
Lake William Hovell and Lake Buffalo will each receive 20,000 fish, while Banimboola Pondage is also set for a 20,000-fish release.
The authority is rolling out around 200,000 rainbow trout across 19 lakes statewide, backed by the Victorian Government’s $96 million Go Fishing and Boating plan and recreational fishing licence fees.
VFA CEO Travis Dowling said the fish, advanced yearlings weighing around 50 grams, were ready to catch immediately and would only grow between now and spring.
“These bonus stockings provide a variety of fishing opportunities, from wilderness experiences for seasoned anglers to family-friendly adventures for beginners,” he said.
“Victorians of all skill levels can look forward to an even better chance of success before year’s end.”
The releases are part of a record-breaking program that has seen 30 million fish stocked across Victoria over the past three years.
