The Redeyes were pleased with some promising passages of play.
However, the scoreboard got away and ultimately, the side couldn’t capitalise on their chances, which let them down.
Rusty Milward, Brad Taylor and Mason Coote were great in the midfield along with Kyel Bain.
Ari Glover worked super hard up forward and Nick Taylor showed some real promise.
The effort was there, and the group will continue to build.
Final score: Picola United 15.14 (104) def Blighty 3.10 (28).
Reserves
Saturday was a testament to grit, determination, and the absolute refusal to back down for Blighty.
The players fought hard for every possession, challenged every contest, and showed the kind of resilience that defines a team.
Special mention to Danyon Williams, who received best on, and Al Gardner, Dion Winter, and Nick Pell following right there in the thick of it, giving everything they had.
However, this was a team effort as every single player out there played their part, put their body on the line, and worked for one another.
Win or lose, this is the type of performance that builds character, strengthens bonds, and sets the tone for the rest of the season.
The hard work doesn't stop here by these boys, we take this momentum, we build on it, and we keep pushing forward.
Well done, boys.
Final score: Picola United 17.8 (110) def Blighty 0.0 (0).
Fourths
The weather for the fourths game against Picola was perfect for a great game of football.
Blighty played their best game so far, especially when moving the ball into the forward line.
All players were getting in there and trying their best. It was great to see improvements in all players.
Seth Fuess defended well and made good contests for the ball.
Hudson Kelly put in some great tackles.
The only point was scored by Logan Marshall, which showed the team that it’s very possible to get the ball into the forward line and score.
Best on field was awarded to Degan Morgan, who had a very strong game at fullback, taking some very strong marks.
Other awards went to Jackson Cleve who had his best game, working alongside Degan in back pocket. He was a standout in defence.
Helen Fevaleak played another strong game in the centre, always trying to get the hard ball.
Jack Brown got many possessions and was never scared to put a good tackle in.
The scoreboard didn’t reflect the effort that Blighty put in.
Final score: Picola United 20.17 (137) def Blighty 0.1(1).
Fifths
It was another great game from our boys and girls, who all had a good run and really wanted the footy.
Awards are extremely hard as they all really step up and play as a team.
Final score: Not scored.
