TPS is now one of the top eight school teams in NSW, out of 525 schools who entered.
Coach Tanya Saraikin said she was “immensely proud” of the girls’ efforts over the six games they played against schools from across the Riverina region.
TPS defeated Deniliquin South Public School in the Riverina final, 23-18.
Tocumwal will now play Jerrabomberra Public School, who were champions of the South Coast region, in Canberra on September 14.
If they are successful, they will then take part in the state final in Sydney in mid-October.
Principal Darren White said it’s a tremendous achievement, given TPS played against much larger schools on their way to winning the regional final.
“The game against Jerrabomberra will be a big challenge given it is a school with a population of about 900 students,” he said.
“The girls’ have trained hard under the guidance of Mrs Saraikin and have played extremely well as a team supporting each other and displaying sportsmanship throughout.
“We wish the team all the best in their state quarter final.”
