While Deniliquin now has two ride share-style businesses, only a registered taxi service can accept the travel vouchers that could be available to such residents.
People with disabilities and holders of Cabcharge and Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme (TTSS) cards are among those most affected.
An Intereach Community Transport spokesperson confirmed taxi vouchers previously provided by Intereach are currently unable to be used, but that alternative arrangements are being explored.
“Intereach is aware that some local community members are currently experiencing transport challenges and are encouraging anyone affected to reach out and discuss available support options,” the spokesperson said.
Intereach Community Transport can offer subsidised transport services for eligible residents who may have difficulty accessing private or public transport.
The service can assist people attending medical appointments, shopping, accessing essential services and maintaining social connections with family and friends.
Transport is available locally and for out-of-town appointments, and for services not available in Deniliquin.
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available, with trained staff able to assist passengers with mobility needs.
Intereach’s Deniliquin community bus operates from 8.30am to 4.30pm, offering door-to-door transport for local residents.
Additionally, Deniliquin’s town bus service, operated by Dysons, operates from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, operating on a hail-to-ride basis.
Community members seeking information about Intereach Community Transport can contact the service on 1300 488 226 or visit the Deniliquin Intereach office in Trickett St.
