It has included the Rural Fire Service Mid Murray Zone Group 4’s annual Start Up day, once again hosted by the Mayrung brigade.
This year marked the 10th occasion group brigades have gathered together for these exercises.
“Firefighters attended to refresh knowledge, experience, operating procedures and fire truck systems prior to the commencement of the fire season,” Mayrung brigade secretary Phyllis Ball said.
“There were also several new volunteers present who were able to complete the practical component of their training on the day.”
Following the success of the previous two years, Deniliquin Rescue Squad - VRA Rescue was again asked to assist with the training program.
The squad provided an old car to use as a demonstration tool.
Mrs Ball said to build on this, a representative of the Deniliquin’s NSW Highway Patrol attended for the first time.
“The RFS frequently has a cooperative role to play with these organisations in emergency situations,” Mrs Ball said.
“These training days are important for the local brigades who often work together at an incident, and are also important in having a cohesive group when an emergency arises.”
The RFS is also working on programs to ensure the community is prepared for the coming Bush Fire Danger Period, which will begin on October 1 in the Mid Murray region.
