Bruce was a long-time player, committee member, office bearer and character of our club, and Debbie, along with many other members, has many fond memories of his time with us.
Congratulations to both Debbie and Marty, who had to fight their way through close qualifying-round matches to make the play off.
Debbie maintained her form with a further victory over Sai Naidu in a cash night held on Monday 27 July. Sai is playing under duress with an injury that may have its roots in a socially excitable state that he recently found himself in, but his form remains excellent, forcing Deb to pull out all the stops to get over the line.
Heie Hansen was back to his best in claiming our August Club Challenge on Monday 3 August. Heie, who has developed a revised game plan, is reaping the benefits of the strategy and claimed the ClubMulwala vouchers over ever-consistent Darren Edwards in a close finish.
Well played, gentlemen. We trust you will thoroughly enjoy the fruits of your efforts via the ClubMulwala kitchen or adult beverage service.
Recent social-night competitions have seen Marty Dermietzel victorious over Heie Hansen on 22 July, Darren Edwards claiming the choccies from Sai Naidu on 29 July, and Daryl McKernan defeating Michael “Mr Wednesday Night” Barclay on 5 August.
Club Champion Adrian Ridley and his nephew Luca Macheda, who happens to be our youngest club member, were part of the victorious Victorian team that defeated NSW in a Trans-Border Test Match at Albury Commercial Club on 30 July.
The contest went to a playoff, where the Vics stood firm to claim the title for this year. Congratulations to both Adrian and Luca, who continue to represent Club Mulwala Snooker Club at this very high level.
In other news, Club Mulwala Snooker Club officially welcomes Ron Reilly to our ranks. Ronnie has only been playing for a few weeks but has already proved himself to be a gentleman and a valuable club member. Welcome aboard, Ron. We all look forward to you having a long and enjoyable association with our club.
The Snooker Club also recently conducted its Annual General Meeting, at which the following positions were decided.
President: D Thompson
Vice President: D Edwards
Junior Vice President: D Harbrow
Treasurer: J Bassett
Secretary: N Page
Committee Members: K Young, M Barclay, H Hansen, M Dermietzel, D McKernan
Thanks very much to all who contribute to the success of our club, including Dan Young, who did not stand for committee membership this year due to the time commitments associated with his new business venture.
We are also deeply grateful to Club Mulwala for its ongoing support and sponsorship of our club. We are very aware of how fortunate we are and look forward to continuing our strong relationship in promoting our sport.
As can be seen on our Mulwala Snooker Club Facebook page, we welcome new members or anyone who may like to give snooker a try. Club Mulwala sponsors our club very generously, so our value-for-money ratio for players is very high indeed.
There are a variety of events held every Monday and Wednesday evening, with plenty of opportunities for new players to join or come along and try our facilities. We have two excellently maintained full-size tables and a state-of-the-art lighting system.
Our snooker room is available for competition, practice and visitor use, and the club has its own regularly updated handicapping system to ensure players from beginners to advanced level can compete equally.
There are also plenty of experienced and skilled players who can offer advice and tips on how to improve your game or perhaps adapt it if you have played pub or social pool in the past.
Please contact us on either 0497 062 443 or 0418 361 779 or visit us on a Wednesday evening before 7.00 pm if you would like to give snooker a try.
