The session provided an opportunity for local families, players, volunteers and supporters to discuss the future of soccer in Tocumwal and the surrounding area, with strong interest shown in helping the group move forward.
A key focus of the session was working through the requirements for expressions of interest and future club affiliation, including finding an appropriate governing body and insurance arrangements.
The group is not currently operating under an umbrella organisation with this and other matters among the important steps still to be confirmed.
Michael Osbourne presented a detailed and informative slideshow outlining the goals of Tocumwal United FC and his vision for the club’s future.
The session also invited expressions of interest for players across different age brackets, along with questions, ideas and offers of volunteer support.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean attended the session and offered her support for the group and its efforts to establish a local soccer pathway.
The club is already running productive training sessions at Tocumwal Public School each week attracting strong interest from local children.
The longer term vision is for Tocumwal United FC to provide opportunities for players to progress into other soccer opportunities throughout the region, including representative teams and provide a group where children can continue to play when the surrounding clubs have finished for the season.
There are still several important pieces to put in place before the club can become fully established.
The first priority is forming a committee, with at least five people required to register the organisation. The group will also need to work through player registrations, affiliation, insurance and funding opportunities.
Community support will be an important part of helping Tocumwal United FC grow, with the group encouraging people to become involved in whatever way they can.
For anyone who was unable to attend Sunday’s information session but would like to find out more or register their interest, please message the Tocumwal United FC Facebook page, email michael_osborne_@outlook.com or call or text Michael on 0409 928 777.
The group hopes the next steps will turn the strong interest and support from Sunday’s session into a sustainable club that gives local children a place to play and represent their region.
