Some new faces, including Jai Park, stepped up with multiple goals, and Mattia Curry fought hard down back.
It was so close, but this will make the boys even hungrier to get their first win.
Final score: Blighty 7.14 (56) def by Jerilderie 8.11 (59).
Reserves
What a way to kick off season 2026 for the twos boys.
We needed to come out quick against a side with some smart players, and we did in a not super pretty game by two teams not wanting to give an inch.
There was great defensive pressure at both ends, especially through Nick Taylor’s intercept and air work.
Jacob Wawrzycki was super down the back as well, holding the game in the balance until the midfield of Jack Sanders, Will McCallum and co clicked in the last, opening it up and setting up the last few scores to take the win.
Final score: Blighty 4.1 (25) def Jerilderie 1.4 (10).
Best players: Jack Sanders, Will McCallum, Jacob Wawrzycki.
Thirds
Blighty hasn't fielded a third side for three years, so it is something pretty special.
Taking on Jerilderie for our first game and knowing that they have some pretty handy guys playing for them it was a perfect challenge to see where we were at.
Fortunately for us, we came away with the four points.
The way boys started to gel and dug in with the never give up attitude was quite pleasing.
Final score: Blighty 9.5 (59) def Jerilderie 2.8 (20).
We have an awesome group of young lads and we’re excited to see what this group can achieve this year.
Picking better players was really hard as there were so many contributors. In the end Charlie Rennie got the best on.
He was followed by Harry Nolan, Xander Strong, Zach Grimison and Sam Conallin.
Fourths
There was high excitement for the first game of the season; and to be able to come off with a win!
There were many first-time experiences for the fourths, with six members of the team getting their first goals.
Daniel Burns, Langa Fevaleaki, Kayden Leech, Ari Tremble, Degan Morgan, and Ben Macdonald all got goals for the team.
The team could not have achieved this without the help of the fifths players stepping up this week.
Thanks to Ari Tremble, Bill Doherty, Felix McKenzie, Jack Macdonald and Franklin Norman.
Best on for the game was first-time player Daniel Burns.
Other awards went to Degan Morgan, Harlem Morgan, Ari Tremble and Charlie Tremble.
The club's good sports award, which is a new award in the club, went to Langa Fevaleaki.
There were other great efforts put in by Liam Gordon and Andrew Frost.
The team was able to put in some great passages of play, which resulted in getting the win.
Final score: Blighty 9.9 (63) def Jerilderie 2.0 (12).
