Moama Steamers representatives Olivia Cartwright, Cass Millerick and Emma Simmonds have retained their place in the team Victoria women’s squad for the State Side Series against Queensland in September, and for the nationals in October.
Cameron Keenan also held on to his place in the men’s side, and will don the ‘Big V’ for the remainder of the representative season as well.
Simmonds and Millerick have enjoyed a solid season, progressing to the final of the fours at the Australian Open in June, while Kyabram’s Cartwright also had a good tournament, making the pairs semi-final and the singles quarter-final.
Millerick and Cartwright also partnered to take out the Victorian Open Women’s triples in March.
The State Side Series will be held at Club Tweed from September 13 to 15, while the nationals, the premier state vs state event on the calendar, will be at the same venue from October 15 to 20.
The Steamers are also making waves in other divisions, with Jacob Brighton being selected in the five-member boys under-18 side, while Robyn Thomassen will feature in the Women’s Over 60 squad, and Barry Brennan will represent in the Men’s Para division.
Brighton recently made his state debut in the Tri-Series with Queensland and NSW at the start of August, winning four of six matches at the event.
The overall series was taken by NSW but Brighton and Victoria took out the boys division.
Brighton will also feature at the school level, the Echuca College student selected to represent School Sports Victoria at the School Sport Australia 18 Years and Under Championships in Geelong from September 17 to 20.
The under-18 section of the nationals will be held from October 8 to 11 at Club Tweed.
Bright bowling future in the region
The future of bowling in Campaspe Shire was furthered bolstered by a strong Kyabram contingent earning selection in the junior ranks.
Charlie Boswood will join Brighton in the under-18 side at the nationals, while he and fellow St Augustine’s College, Kyabram, student Henry Boswood, along with Kyabram P-12 College’s Jacob and Joshua Cartwright, are all part of the 10-member School Sports Victoria side.
