Berrigan finish undefeated

A strong third quarter performance against the Deni Rovers on Saturday has steered Berrigan’s thirds to a perfect Picola & District League home and away season.In what is a likely grand final preview, the Saints held a slender five point lead at the main break in the round six clash at Berrigan Sportsground.Berrigan put the foot down after the break however, kicking 4.5 to Deni’s 1.0 to take a commanding 28 point lead into the last.The Rovers continued to battle strongly in the final stanza, managing to outscore the Saints.But the damage was done with Berrigan recording a 23 point win.Final score, Berrigan 10.13 (73) to Deni Rovers 8.2 (50).Onballer Raymond Murphy was Deni’s best with the usual suspects — Alvin Cooper, Haydn Mowat, Tom Blake, Khy Stovell and Tom Banks — also among the better players.Stovell had yet another outstanding showing in front of goal, slotting four majors to bring his season tally to 24 after six rounds.His closest rival in the goalkicking was Saint Darcy McManus, who also managed four on the day to finish the year with 15 goals from his five games.Berrigan’s best players on the day were Jack Richards, Cooper Willoughby, Tom Bradley, McManus, Cable Fitzpatrick and Tom McCallum.In the fourths game, the Roos held off the Saints in a 13 point win to finish the season undefeated.It was a tale of two halves with the Rovers jumping to a 21 point lead at the main break.Berrigan tightened things up in defence in the second half, keeping the Roos scoreless for the remainder of the game.Scoring was hard to come by for both sides however, with the Saints only able to add 1.2 for the half.Final score, Deni Rovers 4.3 (27) to Berrigan 2.2 (14).Better players for the Rovers were Cam Wills, Tyson Willis, Liam East, Bobby Hall, Bryce Lea and Jemika Cooper.For the Saints it was Marcus Moorse, Logan Leiper, Xavier Fox, Luke Todd, Charlton Baxter and Farron Urrutia.Berrigan will now host Blighty in both the thirds and fourths for semi final clashes this Saturday.The winner of these games will move on to the grand final to be held at Memorial Park in Deniliquin.
