She was one of four finalists for the Little Athletics NSW Young Volunteer of the Year Award.
The finalists were recognised at the Little Athletics NSW Annual Conference, celebrating the people who make an important contribution to athletics and their communities.
Tehya’s recognition reflects the countless hours she has dedicated to athletics while continuing to train and compete herself at local, regional and state competitions.
At Finley Little Athletics, Tehya regularly volunteers as an official on club nights and helps with the many behind-the-scenes jobs needed to keep the club running.
She has also contributed extensively to the club’s annual gala day and those of surrounding towns in the Riverina, assisting with preparations and volunteering on the day while also competing.
Her commitment extends beyond Finley, as an official at local school athletics carnivals.
For the past two years, she has also volunteered at the Region 4 Championships as an assistant clash manager, helping athletes manage clashes between events and assisting with the smooth running of the championships - all while competing herself.
Little Athletics NSW CEO Chris Giles, who has known Tehya for several years, praised her contribution to the sport.
“Tehya Kelly’s nomination for the Little Athletics NSW Young Volunteer of the Year is a fantastic recognition of her commitment to our sport and her community,” he said.
“While continuing to compete as an athlete herself, she consistently goes above and beyond to support, encourage and inspire younger athletes, making a positive impact on everyone around her.”
