The day saw 13 teams compete in a fun, modified cricket tournament to help raise money for the McGrath Foundation.
“The format was a 6-a-side competition; each side was required to have at least one female and one under 14 player, but most teams had more than this,” Oaklands Cricket Club president Phil Goldsack said.
“We had three pitches/grounds set up on the rec ground.
“Each team played three games and then the top four sides played in semi finals.“In a successful day, the eventual winners were Team Moloney.
“We had about 150 people who braved the heat to attend, including players and spectators.
“We raised more than $7000 for the McGrath Foundation, which was a huge achievement,” Goldsack said.
It was the second year the Oaklands club has held the Pink Stumps Day.
Last year there were 12 teams competing with a total of $5570 raised.
Goldsack said the fundraiser was initiated after the club was directly affected by breast cancer.
“We got the idea after our treasurer was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago,” he said.
“We also have others in our community who have gone through breast cancer, some in the past and others currently undergoing treatment.
“We are very passionate about this cause and plan to continue holding this day as an annual community event at Oaklands.
“We beat last year’s figure which was really pleasing; there were a lot of generous people.“The day went well, though it was quite hot day so we managed to get a lot of cricket played early.”
