Greater Shepparton produce showcased on international stage

Opportunities were identified for a range of produce, including apples, pears, citrus and stone fruit.

This year’s event was particularly significant for opportunities to export apples into China.

Greater Shepparton City Council sent three representatives, including Deputy Mayor Geoff Akers, who said “it was good to go with Fruit Growers Victoria to represent the region”.

“Asia Fruit Logistica once again demonstrated the importance of horticulture to Greater Shepparton and the strength of our region's reputation for producing premium-quality fresh produce,” Cr Akers said.

“It was a really productive three days, with our delegation having direct conversations with buyers, importers and industry representatives from across Asia and the Middle East.”

Cr Akers said having Greater Shepparton represented alongside growers and Fruit Growers Victoria helped strengthen the region's presence in a highly competitive international market, while continuing to build the relationships that underpin long-term export opportunities.

FGV grower services manager Michael Crisera said the expo was an important platform to connect industry leaders and showcase Greater Shepparton’s produce on a global stage.

The event delivered tangible leads and opportunities that can now be pursued by local growers, exporters and industry partners.

The cost to council for the trip came in under budget, and an assessment will be conducted to determine if it was value for money.
