Children from St Joseph’s School Finley, Finley Public School and Blighty Public School came together last week to deliver their prepared speeches, and for the Year 5/6 students their one-minute impromptu speech, to the local Lions Club members and the judges.
The students, family and staff of the schools would like to thank the Lions Club for its support of this fabulous program.
“The children who demonstrate skill in the area of public speaking really appreciate the opportunity to apply themselves in this program,” said St Joseph’s principal Veronica Braybon.

The ‘A Cuppa and a Chat’ morning tea held every Thursday from 10.30am at the Finley RS Club and organised by members of Murray Hut CWA has become so popular, the decision has been made to extend the get-together to include lunch on the second Thursday of each month.
Everyone is welcome and participants are simply asked to make a gold coin donation to help support this initiative.

Finley Show Society will hold a street stall this Friday, August 14.
A load of firewood will be raffled and home baked goods will also be available.
The show is only 25 days away and those interested will be able to get a show schedule and pay membership.
Copies of the schedule can be found at the Finley Newsagency, Post Office, Haynes Butchery, Quality Meats, Hospital Op Shop and Rotary Op Shop. Copies are also available from the website.
Online entry is preferred, however hardcopy form will be accepted.
The show office will open from 10am Tuesday, September 1.
Please be sure to check the closing dates and times for each section. Late entries will not be accepted.

The Finley Art Network members are proud to be included in the Art Trail being held on August 15.
The trail takes in arts and craft exhibitions in Tocumwal, Barooga, Cobram, Yarroweyah and Finley.
It will include cards and crafts, mosaics, wood working, paintings and many other types of crafts created by the locals of these towns.
There will be morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included in the price of $25 for the trip. The light luncheon will be at Cobram.
A full explanation of the day, together with directions to the sites, is available from the Finley Art Network venue in Denison St, Finley next to the courthouse.
The last Art Trail was extremely successful, with visitors interested in many forms of arts and crafts attending from several areas and the surrounding communities.
Several of the showings and products are available to purchase.

Sue Hynes was delighted to have five generations come together to help celebrate her birthday recently.
The group took advantage of the sunny weather on Saturday to take the family get-together down to the Finley lake and enjoy each other’s company.

Catholic Diocese of Wagga Wagga Bishop Mark Edwards travelled to Finley last weekend to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation and Blessings to a number of students during the celebration of Mass on Sunday morning.
Bishop Mark was attended by local Parish Priest and administrator, Father Prasanth Mary Das.
Bishop Mark expressed his appreciation, and thanks for the efforts of Father Prasanth, teachers and parents in preparing the students for such an important occasion.
Following Mass, the celebrations continued with morning tea in the Parish Hall.
Bishop Mark took advantage of his time in the area to also visit Tocumwal and Jerilderie Parishes.

Mark O’Brien was the lucky winner of last Saturday’s Finley Lions Club wood raffle.
No doubt he and his family made good use of the wood with the cold and wet days that followed.

Finley Regional Care Auxiliary would like to advise that its AGM will take place at the facility next Monday, August 17, from 1pm. All welcome to attend.
The group is looking for new members. Anyone interested should contact Bernadette on 0417 897 462.
It is not necessary to attend all meetings; if you can contribute in any other way, you would be most welcome.
The Auxiliary members do an amazing job, fundraising to provide extra facilities for the residents of FRC.
