Earlier last week the council announced on their communication platforms that the tree affectionately known as the 'Tree of Knowledge' at Monash Park in Jerilderie will need to be removed in late October.
The tree has been unwell for some time and, with the assistance of an arborist, council has worked hard to improve its health, including removing diseased sections. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, its condition has continued to decline.
Council said: “The safety of the community must come first. Due to the tree's poor health, our insurer will no longer provide cover should the tree, or part of it, fall and cause damage, injury, or worse.
“We understand our community has fond memories of the tree and share the disappointment at its loss. We are looking to plant a replacement tree nearby.”
