Registrations are now open and must be submitted by August 31.
The statewide collection is particularly significant for chemical users in selected disaster-affected areas.
Agsafe has worked with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to secure funding to assist eligible chemical users in these areas with the cost of disposing of Group 2 chemicals.
Funding is available in the following local government areas: Armidale Regional, Bellingen Shire, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Dungog, Kempsey Shire, Maitland, MidCoast, Nambucca Valley, Port Macquarie-Hastings, Port Stephens and Walcha.
There is no separate application process.
Chemical users in eligible areas simply need to register their Group 2 chemicals with ChemClear by August 31. Registrations already submitted from eligible locations will automatically be considered for funding.
Group 2 chemicals include AgVet chemicals that expired or were deregistered more than two years ago; unknown, unlabelled or mixed chemicals; and chemicals manufactured by companies that do not participate in drumMUSTER.
As Group 2 chemicals require specialised handling, disposal costs vary. ChemClear will assess each registration and provide a disposal quotation before collection arrangements are confirmed.
All eligible registrations will receive a portion of the available funding.
The level of assistance will be determined after registrations close and will depend on the volume of eligible chemicals registered and the total funding available.
Group 1 chemicals are eligible for free collection if they were manufactured by participating drumMUSTER companies, are in their original containers with intact labels, remain registered or were deregistered within the past two years, and are within two years of their expiry date.
Collection locations and dates will be finalised after registrations close.
ChemClear will contact registered participants directly to confirm their collection arrangements and provide instructions for preparing their chemicals.
