Murray-Darling Basin Authority executive director of river management Jacqui Hickey said the Torrumbarry team had shown a strong commitment to maintaining the weir, lock and grounds to a high standard, while making excellent use of available resources.
“Torrumbarry plays an important role in supporting the reliable operation of the River Murray system, and this award recognises the professionalism, innovation and teamwork that goes into maintaining such a significant asset,” Ms Hickey said.
“The team impressed us with their strong commitment to safety, efficiency and continuous improvement, helping ensure the weir and lock continue to serve River Murray communities and water users.”
Ms Hickey also acknowledged and commended the contribution of others from within Goulburn-Murray Water who had supported the Torrumbarry team to achieve the award.
The perpetual Senator JS Collings Trophy is awarded to the site assessed as the most effectively maintained asset in the River Murray system.
First awarded in 1943, it is named after Senator JS Collings, president of the River Murray Commission from 1941-45.
