Tungamah’s Dianne Sampson was named Star Achiever of the Year, and Limelight Touring Co., founded by Yarrawonga’s Brenda Silva was recognised as ACE Star Achiever of the Year.
Dianne is secretary of the Tungamah Cemetery Trust, an organisation she has served for more than 25 years providing care and advice to bereaved families, and liaising with undertakers, stone masons and grave diggers.
She was instrumental in obtaining grants for a new toilet block and rotunda.
Dianne is also a long-term member of the Tungamah Hall Committee, an outstanding member of the Tungamah Bowling Club and has worked tirelessly over many years for the Tungamah Football and Netball Club.
The ACE Star Achiever is for arts, culture and environment.
Limelight Touring Co. has represented Moira on the national stage at events like the Adelaide Fringe Festival, provided drama classes for the Shire’s young people, and showcased the region’s towns as venues for performances.
Limelight has brought people together to experience events and performances that might otherwise never be available to them.
Council chair administrator Dr Graeme Emonson, said he was delighted to celebrate excellence in the shire and to highlight those people.
“These awards recognise the often-unsung heroes of our community, the tireless workers who make Moira a better place to live,” Dr Emonson said.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have so many dedicated and passionate volunteers who generously contribute their time, skills and energy for the benefit of others.
“We sincerely thank them and applaud them for their outstanding efforts.”
The ceremony included guest speaker Cedric Pang, who received the 2025 Young Star Achiever Award, Yorta Yorta representative Nicky James, and a musical performance by Matilda Altoft.
