Marbles isn’t your normal Pomeranian — she’s a miniature Pom. She’s not your average farm dog either, or city dog. She’s in a league of her own and that’s just how Marbles of Sevens Creek Wagyu prefers it. Owner Christine McGregor says the Pom is a terrible and expensive farm dog.

What is her breed, exactly?
She’s a miniature Pomeranian. Her pedigree name is “Marbles Score 9+”. (9+ is the highest marbling score Wagyu beef can achieve.) I’ve had her since she was a puppy. I drove all the way to Port Macquarie to pick her up. For the first few months she used to travel in the console, with the elbow rest lifted up. She was tiny.
What does her life look like?
Each week she’s either in the city or up here on the Strathbogie farm — this was pre-lockdown, mind you. Now she’s adjusted from city life to here.
Changes: before retirement Chris kept German shepherds. Now she’s dealing with a whole new ball game.

Is she good on the farm?
She chases tyres and cows. She’s got no fear. They swish their tails and she’ll run from this side to that side. She’ll get them running, but I stress she’ll get kicked one day. It will only happen once.
What’s her personality?
She is so arrogant. She dosen’t know what to make of the two sheep I have, but she thinks they bow to her anyway. I like that side of her, but it’s frustrating, especially around the cows. She’s very much an only child.
How is she in the CBD?
It takes us an hour to walk a block because people keep stopping to interact with her. She loves the attention.
Can’t not pat it: Everything about a Pomeranian seems designed to entice you in for a pat. The apartment dogs are quickly switched on, bossy and very confident.

Most of her time is spent in the backyard behind the restaurant?
She’s kept on a long leash. While she is very friendly, I can’t allow her to be around the food-preparation areas and she isn’t good with children.
Have you always had little dogs?
No. Before this I had two German shepherds. A customer I knew talked me into the breed. I was living in an apartment at the time in the Melbourne CDB and I thought she’d be great for that. In the end I bought myself a very expensive farm dog.
