“Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed’." (John 8:34-36).
When we come into relationship with Jesus, we become sons and daughters of the living God.
Prior to that, we are slaves to sin and slaves to the master of sin, Satan.
When we put our lives in Jesus’ hands, He sets us free from our sins because His atoning sacrifice at Calvary paid the price for all our sins once and for all.
Does that mean as a follower of Christ we can continue to wilfully sin? Definitely not.
To accept Jesus as lord and saviour, we commit our lives to growing in our relationship with God. Sin puts up a barrier in our relationship.
When we commit sin, we simply confess and repent and turn from our sins.
This keeps us in a right relationship with God.
The Holy Spirit living within the heart of the believer gives us the power to overcome sin.
When we walk with God we know true freedom.
Sin weighs us down but true life and liberty can only be found in Christ.
