The CFA was called to a large burning pile of industrial waste in Coomboona at 5.09am on Sunday, August 9.
A CFA media spokesperson said that the fire measured around 70m by 30m.
The fire was brought under control at 6.54am.
The CFA issued an advice message that was escalated to a ‘watch and act’ that asked local residents to stay indoors due to toxic smoke in the area.
The alert has since been downgraded to an advice message but the site had not yet been declared safe due to ongoing smoke as of Monday morning.
Seven CFA vehicles attended the scene, supported by Fire Rescue Victoria crews.
Emergency crews are no longer on scene.
The EPA and Victoria Police have been notified.
Shepparton police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
