As a footballer you could not miss him, and although he is now playing in Echuca, he is planning to connect to his hometown with his plans to raise money to help people who have lost everything in the bushfires ravaging the country.
Kyle is getting a haircut.
No, actually, it’s a hair shave.
He is going bald in his bid to raise money for bushfire victims – and he’s off to a flying start after setting himself the modest total of $2000.
He had passed that very soon after launching his appeal and his total got a big hike this morning when Moama Bowling Club kicked in $1000.
“I will still be going bald because I hit the target I set but I am hoping to make it $5000 now and am appealing for everyone who can help to get on board; if not with me then with the many other people in town who are also trying to raise money,” Kyle said.
“A lot of people need a lot of help and we are very lucky not to be in the same boat,” he said.
“I saw a few of the boys in other clubs and sports were all trying to do something so I wondered what your average Joe Blow could do to help.”
One look in the mirror convinced Kyle he had an opportunity.
“It seemed pretty obvious, and the people caught up in the fires need help more than I need all this hair,” he added.
An accountant with Lockwood Partners, Kyle is planning to go under the knife – but definitely not the shears Moama Bowling Club sales and marketing manager George Santos brought with him for the photo.
“I’m going to get my hair cut by my mum, Bernadette, who is a hairdresser in Finley,” Kyle said.
“I reckon that will be a lot safer.”
George Santos said Moama Bowling Club was delighted to lend a hand even though he was personally disappointed he could not ‘shear’ Kyle himself.
“It is great to see so many people trying to do things to help,” George said.
“And we are happy to be part of that, because it seems to be such a widespread response, for everyone to try and do what they can to get aid to people who live a long way from here,” he said.
“As a NSW business but as such an integral part of the twin towns we are looking at such tragic circumstances in both states and we applaud young people such as Kyle getting involved so quickly and enthusiastically.
“And like Kyle we encourage as many people as possible to support one of the many initiatives now being run around the country.”
