Work is also scheduled at another 13 locations during the 2026/27 financial year.
The program has been funded through $750,000 secured over three financial years under the Strengthening Community Safety – Federal Election Commitment Funding program.
The first year of works began in February, covering kindergartens, maternal and child health centres, libraries, sporting facilities, town centres and busy intersections across the shire's growth areas.
Cameras were installed at the Seymour Tennis Complex, the Seymour Visitor Information Centre and Pyalong Recreation Reserve.
Works were also completed at Broadford Stadium and the Mitchell Shire Civic Centre in Broadford, along with six sites in Wallan, two in Beveridge, one in Wandong and three in Kilmore.
In 2026/27, works are scheduled at Victoria St Kindergarten in Seymour, Chittick Park band hall, the Tooborac Mechanics Hall, the Broadford Youth Room and the Broadford Living and Learning Centre, along with eight other sites.
Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said the investment would help residents feel safer in the places they lived, worked and visited.
“This funding allows us to strengthen safety in high-use public areas across Mitchell Shire, including town centres, community facilities and sporting precincts,” Cr Dougall said.
“CCTV plays an important role in supporting safe, welcoming spaces and gives our community greater confidence when using shared public areas.
“These upgrades are about prevention as much as protection. By improving visibility and lighting in key locations, we’re helping to reduce fear of crime and support positive use of public spaces.”
Council thanked Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell for his help in securing the funding commitment.
