Berrigan Community Bowls Club played its final club event of the season on Saturday – the mixed pairs.
The event was played in two pools with the winner of Pool A – Paul Glanvill and Rachel Head – playing the winner of Pool B – Garry Seamer and Katie Vandermeer – in the final.
While Seamer and Vandermeer won four of the six ends played in the final, it was Glanvill and Head who prevailed on the day, drawing five shots on the second end and four on the fifth end to win nine shots to five.
For Glanvill it was his second win in a club event this season – having previously won the 100-up while for Head it topped off a remarkable season, where she won the Ladies singles, the Ladies pairs and now the mixed pairs.
The final of the Betty Cobb Handicap Singles was played between Matt Hansen and Geoff Blake on Thursday with a good crowd in attendance once again.
Hansen got off to a good start, pulling back his handicap early, and managed to come away with the win 22 to 9.
Laurie Way will play in the State Novice Singles finals at Mulgrave Country Club this weekend.
‘‘Skinny” Way has already made it to the final 16 in the state, which is a magnificent effort.
If he makes it through to the final two in Mulgrave, he will play in the grand final in Bendigo during State Champions Week on April 27.
Berrigan has provided a rink to play alongside Finley RSC in the Edinburgh Shield in Deniliquin this weekend.
The Inaugural Berrigan Winter Bowls Round Robin will start on April 29 with Rick Bradbury acting as tournament coordinator.
Tocumwal
The Ladies B Grade Champion this year is Wendy Daley with Pat Morrison runner-up.
In the week just passed the ladies and men’s State Region Sides Championships have been played.
In our region of Central Goulburn Murray Tocumwal was represented by Judy Harvie who played at the Murray Downs Resort and Chris Philpot at Traralgon.
Unfortunately neither of these teams won but we congratulate these players for being selected.
In the upcoming Shirley Sinclair CMG Region Challeng, Effie Eaton, Vicki Dowling and Judy Harvie have been selected to play in the Murray Bowls team.
Social bowls is played on a Tuesday morning. Names in by 9.15am for 10am start.
Apart from special events all ourthe club’s social bowling is open to all bowlers and gives everyone a chance to relax and enjoy the game of bowls.
A group of around 25 people will be visiting Tocumwal on Monday and are keen for local bowlers to join them. This will be an tournament style event so be prepared for a day out.

Dont forget, Easter is only days away. There are a small number of vacancies for some of the days of the tournament.
Finley RS
Well done to Jeff Peacock, Manfred Krug and Archie West for their win last Thursday at the Men’s Trade Day held in Nathalia.
A few upcoming events for members to look out for over the next few weeks, details and entry sheets are on the board.
The RSC Mixed Pairs will be held on Sunday, May 5; with the club’s AGM and presentation evening Saturday, May 18.
Finley BC
The Shirley Sinclair CGM Region Challenge was held at Shepparton yesterday with Heather Tabe selected to play for Murray Bowls.
Sunday morning bowls attracted good support. Geoff Trevorrow and Graham Shumack recorded a good win.
There is a busy time ahead of Bowls Secretary, Don McKellar.
City Tatts club will be visiting on Thursday, April 18 for mixed social bowls and all bowlers will be required to play against them.
The Easter Carnival, sponsored by JT& EN Close, will commence with pairs on Good Friday, followed by two separate days of open triples, any combination.
Mulgrave Club will be on its annual visit to the area and are to visit on Thursday, May 9.
This will be a great opportunity to renew past friendships and meet new friends.
Lists for nominations are on display for all of these events and players are requested to give these events maximum support.

The weekly Friday night raffles and members draw will be transferred to Thursday, April 19 due to Good Friday.
The Handicap singles draw has ben made and is on display. The first round must be played by April 14. In addition, entries are called for the B Grade Championship for players with a ‘six and under’ rating.
