Volunteer members have helped to establish and run a permanent gallery space in the Deniliquin CBD, and grow it to be a welcoming space that showcases local talent and connects artists from across NSW and Victoria.
With a membership base of about 170, the gallery can open four days a week, selling artwork from local creators as well as pieces from broader regional artists.
Every aspect of the gallery, from managing sales to running the front desk, is handled by volunteers.
Their dedication also powers the extremely popular art workshop series, which continues to attract new faces eager to learn, share, and create.
Held monthly with an aim of building and exploring artistic skills, ERAS member Sivonne Binks said upcoming workshops will cover collage, experimental drawing and bookmaking.
“As an art society, obviously we have artists. But as people get involved, we find we are really building a community,” Sivonne said.
The society also hosts member exhibitions, giving artists of all levels the chance to display their work in a friendly and accessible environment.
One is the annual Deniliquin Easter Art Prize, held in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Deniliquin.
More than 300 entries from 126 artists were received for this year’s exhibition, with volunteers setting up and running the entire event.
The Edward River Art Society is always keen to welcome new members and volunteers - whether you’re an artist, an art lover, or simply someone who enjoys being part of a creative community.
Drop in to see what’s happening at the gallery - you might just find yourself inspired to join in.
