Yarrawonga has once again held its annual wool show, and this year, marked the 100 th anniversary of the Pavilion, named in honour of John Archibald Thom, whose granddaughter, Jeanette Newsom honoured the occasion.

Mr Thom passed away on June 23, 1924, aged 102 years.
The year he died, the Agricultural Society resolved to erect a memorial in recognition of his long and active service, and it was decided to build the sheep pavilion.
As the Agricultural Society didn’t have sufficient money to finance the project, it was supported by public donations and completed in 1926.
This year, local farmers donated 51 fleeces and Rex Bennett from Elders judging the Champion fleece.
President Peter thanked everyone for attending and for their continued support.
Andrew Toms announced the winners and handed out the ribbons and prizes, with the help of Fiona Hart from Elders.
The show relies on members who work in the wool industry and liaise with local farmers.

Once judged, the fleeces go on public display, and at the close of the event they are pressed, baled and readied for transport to auction.
This year’s wool sale proceeds will be donated to Friends in Common.
The Lions Club was delighted to welcome Wendy Dupleix and Heather Hosie members of the Cobram and District Spinners and Weavers this year.
Their display and hands-on spinning and felting demonstrations were a wonderful addition to the show and drew strong interest from visitors.

Elders generously support the show every year, funding the gift vouchers presented to the winners and supplying bunting and signage that brighten the display.
The Lions catering team again embraced an Oktoberfest theme, and the kranskys were a real hit and members joined in the spirit by wearing traditional German-style aprons and hats.
Tim Roadley from Bunnings was back to run a children’s activity, with this year’s merino key ring proving a favourite.
Kids’ activities were expanded this year with a photo booth, free books and stickers, because every child loves stickers.
The Yarrawonga Lions Club extends its heartfelt thanks go to all members for their hard work in the lead-up to and during the event and to everyone who supported it.
The Lions remain dedicated to serving the community while creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
