Owners and employees in the Finley CBD could be seen wearing the distinctive purple shirts last weekend and will continue to do so over the coming long weekend.
Police data shows a remarkable increase in domestic violence incidents over Australian football grand finals and high-profile sporting events.
Australian Rotary Clubs are working together to raise awareness of domestic violence and support for victims.
Finley Rotary Club is also taking part in appealing for old, no longer used, mobile phones which are refurbished and given to victims of domestic violence as a safe, undetected method of calling for assistance.
Every ‘Safe Phone Kit’ donated gives a victim-survivor a private, secure way to call for help and rebuild their independence. Your gift could save a life.
Collection points in Finley are IGA, Haynes Butchery, and Finley High School.

The Finley Public School P&C members were delighted with the response to an invitation to attend the High Tea fundraiser held last Sunday in the School of Arts hall.
The number in attendance, no doubt wanting to meet the wonderful guest speaker, was overwhelming. Women of all ages were sipping on champagne and partaking of the beautiful cakes and slices provided.
MC for the occasion, Cherilyn Taig, introduced and welcomed well known author Rosalie Ham, whose first book, The Dressmaker, was adapted into a film starring Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth.
One of the conditions she negotiated was that some of her family and friends could be used as extras.
Her niece Hannah, who was involved in organising the High Tea, played the role of a nurse.
Rosalie, despite having a cold and sore throat, gave a very interesting and entertaining talk on her latest book, Look After Your Feet - an irreverent look at the darkly funny experience of getting older.
She related a lot of the book’s content to her own time of life and the ability to make light of ageing.
Rosalie was born and raised on a farm in Jerilderie and spent two years attending Finley High School before boarding at St Margaret’s School in Melbourne for her final years of secondary school.
She spent several years in aged care nursing before moving on to creative writing, an experience she used when producing her latest book.
After Rosalie’s address, she was happy to answer questions before being invited to draw the raffle.
The organisers would like to thank everyone who made the event such a success - Sara Ham, Daisy Mae, Studio Alyssum, Finley BP, Leonie Baxter, Finley Country Club, Murray Hut CWA and Tocumwal Golf Club.
Special thanks to Can Assist Finley who gave support in the kitchen. A donation will be made for their assistance.
Proceeds from the event will be used to update lunch tables and the playground at the school.
It was lovely to see former schoolteacher Brett Murphy and his partner Lisa Johnstone in attendance and catching up with everyone.

The countdown is on for this weekend’s reunion of Finley High School students who started in 1971 and finished in 1976, or were a part of that year group through its journey.
Tim Carr will return from the Middle East to relive his memories at the dinner on Saturday evening at the Finley RS Club, while John Marshall, a highly respected teacher during that period, will give his perspective of where he thought his students at the time would end up!
There will be a tour of the school at 10am Saturday and no doubt many stories to relive.
Further information can be obtained by contacting Greg McNamara on 0408 831 911.

The Finley Arts Network will be hosting another exhibition on Saturday, October 10 which will be of Halina Wultz’s paintings.
Halina has been painting with the group for many years and has a number of entries displayed.
Once again, there will be morning and afternoon tea available provided by the members at a cost of $5 per head and the members are hoping for a good turnout to peruse Halina’s works.
The exhibition will begin at 10.30am and continue throughout the day.
Halina has moved to Yarrawonga; however, she still returns to Finley to join the group as often as possible.
This is a great opportunity for the Finley Arts Network members to show off their handy work, and also to encourage more people to become involved in this very enjoyable pastime.
Costs are extremely low, and each member is available to help those who may think they don’t have any talent.
Putting colour on paper with a few brush strokes is a most satisfying way to spend a morning or afternoon.
The Gallery is open at 10.30am on Saturdays and 1pm on Tuesdays at 78 Denison St, so please feel free to call in and have a chat with the members.

The Finley Bowling and Community Club board and management would like to advise that, due to a prior commitment to a function interstate, the club will be closed this Friday and Saturday.
Management would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Anglican Parish of the Newell will be holding the annual Finley Fete on Saturday, October 10, at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church from 9am until about 2pm.
The theme this year is tartan, so it will be interesting to see what Father Fredrick and Reverend Gemma come up with. They always seem to find interesting outfits!
An invitation is extended to everyone to go along and enjoy a day of Scottish music and all things tartan.
There will be plenty of entertainment to suit all ages, including morning tea and a barbecue lunch.
With various stalls to choose from - such as fresh produce, cakes, plants, craft, face painting (10am-noon), money tree and more - it will be hard to know where to start.
There will be a great raffle where you can win a beautiful handmade mosaic plant pot, as well as a side of lamb or a Country Club voucher.

If you are looking for something interesting to wear to an event over the long weekend, be sure to call in to the Finley Hospital Auxiliary Op Shop and check out the special offer of a $5 bag of clothing sale.
The shop has an amazing number and variety of good clothing, and the volunteers would like to see them being used.
Some items are not included in the sale, but there are still plenty of others begging for a new home.
So be sure to call in, have a chat with those on duty and grab a bargain at the same time.

The Finley Garden Club September meeting was held at the home and garden of Marg and Ron Dixon.
Following the general meeting, a lovely afternoon tea was served and members strolled around the beautiful garden beds and acreage of lawn.
Marg and Ron have been living in Tocumwal for nearly eight years, after selling their farm at Logie Brae.
Finley Garden Club won the group exhibit at the recent Finley Show with a beautiful floral arrangement, jam, iced butter cake and crochet rug.
The club has sponsored the garden and produce section for many years, as well as the Joyce Yeo Memorial for best exhibit.
The October meeting on the 5th will be held at Kranky Birdz Cobram.
This garden is amazing, growing all produce themselves to make a large variety of jams, chutney and lemon butter, as well as soaps, bath salts and candles.
Further details will be made available to members.
The executive would like to wish all, happy gardening and enjoy spring.
