There were celebrations at the Finley Golf Club on Sunday after its pennant team returned home victorious from the 2018/19 Mid Murray Men’s Summer Pennant season grand final playoff.
Finley defeated Cobram Barooga, 3/2, in the four ball pennant decider played at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club.
The Mid-Murray Fourball Pennant is contested each year by Corowa, Yarrawonga, Cobram, Tocumwal, Finley and Deniliquin.
This made it four wins in five seasons for Finley after claiming the 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2017/18 grand finals and finishing runner-up in 2016/17.
The winning Finley team consisted of five pairs — Trevor McCaw and Kevin Tengstrom, Colin McNamara and Sel Corcoran, Grant and Matt Wilson, Brett Shaw and Dave Cordell, and Barry Wilson and Dale Pyke.
The depth of talent at the Finley Club was highlighted with the win coming from a team of new younger players that rotated well throughout the year to come out undefeated for the season.
Leo McNamara’s 39 stableford points were enough to give him the voucher for the 18-hole medley competition on Wednesday.
NTP’s went begging on both the 13th and 18th.
Ball competition winners were Ian Armer (36), Paul Pinnuck (36), Bill Mansell (33) and Rand Wilson (31)
The Thursday afternoon winner of the nine hole stroke competition was Beau Makkinga with 29 net.
Ball Competition winners were Andrew Higgins (32) and Rand Wilson (33).
On Saturday, Beau Makkinga with 42 points claimed the trophy for the stableford medley event.
Maree Doyle was NTP on the 13th.
Ball competition winners were Sel Corcoran (38), Marty Piggin (38), Bill Mansell (37) and Jack Doyle (36).
On Sunday cs par Medley was played and at 5-up it was Bill Mansell who claimed the voucher.
Adam Purtill on the 18th.
Ball competition winners were Bill Judd (3-up) and Darren John (3-up). Steve Conrick collected and Ultra NAGA Trophy.
At the weekend stroke will be played on Saturday and stableford on Sunday.

On Tuesday last week ladies played two person multiplied that saw Division One going to Cheryl Hart and Shirley Desailly with 78.
Division Two went to Cheryl Hart and Nannette Mullins also with 78. NTPs went to Julie O’Brien 14th, Nat Beard 18th, Shellei Clark Pro Pin $57.
Wednesday saw 117 men playing Stableford from the blue markers with Division One going to Andrew Shephard (Mooroopa GC) with 39 points followed by Laurie Grioli 38.
Allan DeLuca was the Division Two winner with 40 points runner-up was John Henry 39.
Matt Morritt (Mooroopna GC) was the Division Three winner with 39 points Robert Dishon was runner-up with 37.
Wayne Kerr was the Division Four winner with 35 followed by Thomas Wilton 32.
NTPs went to Darren John 2nd, John Bradbury 8th, Stephen Piggott Pro Pin $125.
Men’s Gold winner was Graeme Sharp 43 points followed by Laurence Rickard 30.
Saturday saw 52 ladies playing Stableford with Division One going to Lindy Cooper with 40 points followed by Kathy Garnaught 39.
Adorree Bailey was the Division Two winner with 37 points with Kaye Sutton taking runner up 36, Marlene Bailey was the Division Three winner with 36 points Beverly Campbell too runner-up with 35.
NTPs went to Lynne Parry 2nd, Kerry Conrad 17th.
Men’s Gold winner was Alan Penny 35 pts.
Sunday was ladies and men’s stableford Presidents vs Captains Day with Division One going to Nola Whiteford on 40 points followed by Kerry Conrad 39.
NTPs went to Susan Bull 2nd, Carol Irvine 18th.
Men’s Division One winner was Jeffrey Ward (Patterson River GC) 40 on countback from Tony Vanin (Foster GC).
Warren Yardy was the Division Two winner with 38 points followed by Phillip Dungan 37 points
Mens Gold winners were Laurence Rickard 38 followed by Alan Penny 35.
Overall it was a great day with Presidents taking the honours this year.
