Saints scrape through

Under 13s: After falling behind early, Berrigan’s Under 13s were able to beat Jerilderie in the semi finals of the Picola & District League season on Saturday.The Dees came out firing, fighting hard to knock the Saints off early with strong defence and constant pressure. Berrigan regrouped and started to consolidate and bring their practised skills to take the lead and minimise Jerilderie’s hard fought efforts. Although leading at the end of every quarter, the Saints pushed to a comfortable lead with good goal shooting in the last quarter.The battle was one to watch, with every goal from the Saints a product of their hard work, earning them a spot in the grand final, where they will face-off against Deni Rovers this weekend.Final score, Berrigan 23 to Jerilderie 5.Under 15s: In a thrilling hard-fought finals game, Blighty held off the staggering offence from the Saints to earn themselves an appearance in the grand final.Going into the second quarter the Saints trailed by five goals and maintained their fast-paced game plan.Fantastic defence and midcourt play saw Berrigan convert that effort into goals, but they still trailed by five at the half.The Saints never gave up going into the third quarter with both teams applying plenty of pressure, turning mistakes into chances.Trailing by five heading into the fourth quarter meant the Saints had a lot of work to do and after giving it their all, managed to claw their way to a draw at the final whistle. In extra-time, Blighty quickly regained their lead, managing to hold it despite massive pressure from the Saints in an exciting, high pressure game. A proud Berrigan coach paid tribute to all who fought hard on the day.The club thanks their weekly sponsors and all who volunteer every week in helping to make the mini-comp happen. Final score, Blighty 28 to Berrigan 24.Under 17s: Berrigan stormed their way to a grand final with a dominant 46 goal win against Jerilderie.Final score, Berrigan 73 to Jerilderie 27.
