On Thursday, January 16 they will meet at the Lions Community Centre to make quilts for those who have lost their homes.
The materials for batting the quilts has been provided thanks to a $250 donation from Tocumwal’s Community Op Shop.
All the quilts made on the day will be personally delivered to fire affected communities by representatives of the Tocumwal quilting community.
Girls’ Shed leader Anne Jones said more hands on the day will mean the community can contribute more to the worthy cause.
“We are a group of senior ladies who want to help bushfire victims. Making quilts is our superpower,” she said.
“Bring machines if you sew, but we have plenty of other tasks you can help out with on the day.
“We have some fabric and batting, but all donations are gratefully received.
“We plan to make as many lap to single bed-sized adult quilts as we can.
“Someone might need to do some homework finishing bindings at home. If you can start making a quilt of blocks please do so, as this will increase the output from our day.
“Bring your lunch and your mug. We will provide tea, coffee, and slices/cakes and laughter.
“This is a serious business but we will have fun doing it all, at no cost for anyone who can help.”
