Yarrawonga 5.6 (36) def Corowa 5.3 (33)
On a warm Sunday afternoon, the Pigeon army rocked up to Corowa with a hunting mood. Right from the get-go it was an arm wrestle with no goals in the first quarter.
With some refocus at quarter time, the second quarter saw the pigeons gain some composure, and take control by working hard in and around the contests to build a two goal lead heading into half time.
The third term saw Corowa turn the heat up by kicking three goals to the pigeons 1 goal, finishing with a 5 point lead at three quarter over Yarrawonga - the last term was going to be a cracker.
The Under 12 Pigeons were too strong for the Roos.
Corowa jumped out of the blocks and the arm wrestle continued with every ball hotly contested, the young Pigeons were determined not to let the game slip, and neither were Corowa.
A tense quarter followed with two more goals each and Corowa up by 3 points with less than a minute to go – but a goal from Mac Hargraves put the pigeons in front with 15 seconds until the siren. It was a great win and the game was played with plenty of spirit.

Yarrawonga 10.8 (68) defeated Corowa 8.5 (53)
On Sunday the Under 14 Pigeons faced off against their fierce rival Corowa.
It was the Roos who were able to strike a couple of early blows putting the Pigeons on the back foot. Charlie Bourke steadied the ship for the Pigeons with a strong pack mark and goal.
Ryder Briffa was busy in the midfield and was well supported by Darby Bigger. Charlie Carlyle repelled many of Corowa’s early attacks however the Roos took an 8-point lead into the quarter time break.
The second term was much the same as the first with Corowa in control. Michael Laszlo did his best to inspire the Pigeons with a great snap from the pocket. Oscar Leary followed with a goal of the day contender of his own, after selling some nice candy he snapped truly to get the Pigeons back within a kick.
It was all the Roos after this despite the efforts of Charlie Bourke in the ruck and Elliot Tresize who was everywhere. The Pigeons were down by 26 points at the main break.
The Pigeons came out inspired after half time and completely dominated the quarter.
Finnin George’s move from defence to attack paid immediate dividends kicking the first. This then followed a procession of Pigeon goals.
Finn O’Brien booted the next and put his hat in the ring for a goal of the day contender, with an Eddie Betts inspired dribbler from the pocket.
Parker Cowan pulled of a goal saving tackle in the next foray forward for Corowa, which helped to keep momentum for the Pigeons. Goals to Bigger, another from Finnin and then back to back goals to Charlie Bourke meant that it was 6 in a row and also a handy 14-point lead at three quarter time.
The last term was a tight tussle with both teams not giving an inch.
Angus Looby kicked the opening goal of the term after some great team play.
Oscar Leary and Will Cruikshank epitomised the defensive mindset of the Pigeons with some great tackling.
The centre bounce ascendancy as well as great defensive pressure right across the ground really set the game up for the Pigeons in the second half.
It was the boys fourth win of the season and hopefully they can take some confidence into the latter part of the season and finish off with a few more wins.
