This was taken out by Mark Casey from Deer Park, who was just too good for Rich River's Peter Nesbitt in a closely contested final.
The stage was then set for the annual Classic Pairs the following two days, sponsored by Moama Bowling Club and Deniliquin's Central IGA.
All teams were auctioned off during a huge Calcutta on Friday evening, and it was no surprise to see Casey and his partner sold for the highest amount following his earlier singles triumph.
The club is again indebted to Mark Braybon who did a sterling job as the solo auctioneer, and to Michael Todd in his regular role with technical backup.
It was late Sunday afternoon when Mathew O'Brien from Yarra Glen and Lilydale's Rod Nicholson narrowly prevailed over brothers Peter and Greg Brain from Castlemaine in a very tense final.
An extra end was required to separate them, with the former pair eventually winning six shots to five.
After dodging most of the inclement weather for much of the weekend, the weather gods decided to unleash a torrential downpour just before the completion of the final.
Players were forced to contend with a lot of surface water.
The club was pleased to be able to conduct the event after a COVID-induced hiatus of two years and is most appreciative of the support, with 60 pairs having competed.
