Two tournaments in one day

Finley Mark II Golf Carts Ladies Open Tournament scratch winners Denise Boland (B-grade), Sharon Pyle (A-grade) and Gai Singleton (C-grade).

On Sunday, in warm but perfect conditions, Finley golfers welcomed 90 players for the 2023 Mark II Golf Carts Ladies Open Tournament, which was combined with the Tocumwal Golf Resort Men’s Open Tournament.

Ladies A-grade scratch winner was Sharon Pyle on 85 gross, with Bobette Wilkinson (Tocumwal) runner-up on 87 after a countback.

A-grade net winner was Margot Robertson with 71 net, with Louise Holden (Corowa) on the runner-up on 79 net.

B-grade scratch winner was Denise Boland (Jerilderie) with 89 gross whilst, Joanne Dean was runner-up on 93.

The B-grade net winner was Enid Bain with 74 net, from Beth White who had 76 net.

C-grade scratch winner was Gai Singleton with 94 gross, with Julie Sleigh (Jerilderie) on 107 as runner-up.

Prue Chalmers (Deniliquin) had 69 net to be C-grade net winner, and Julie Gregory on 77 net was runner-up.

In the men’s division, A-grade scratch winner with 74 off the stick was Ray Watmore (Tocumwal), with Mick Cooper also from Tocumwal on 75 as runner-up.

A-grade net winner was Dave Hercus (Jerilderie) on 70 net, from Phil Boulton (Cobram) who after countback on 71 net was runner-up.

After countback, B-grade went to Greg Brooks (Cobram) on 83 gross, with Brett Murphy on 84 and runner-up

The B-grade net trophy was claimed by Sam Singleton with 72 net from Kevin McCumstie on 74 net.

In C-grade it was Rodger Sutton, after countback on 86, who took the trophy. Lachlan Wheelan (Berrigan) had 91 to be runner-up.

C-grade net winner was Dean Pound (Coleambally) with 68 net, from Mark Newton with 71 net.

No female golfer could find the greens for any NTP trophy.

In the men’s, A-grade NTP was Allan Lowndes (Cobram), B-grade went to Grant Shaw and C-grade to Dean Pound (Coleambally).

The ladies played stroke at the Barooga Sporties event on Wednesday, for the March Monthly Medal.

The day’s winner was Sue Simpson with 71 net, which also gave her the net medal.

The scratch medal went to Margot Robertson after countback on 90 gross. Margot also won the putting competition with 27 putts, again after countback.

Ball competition winners were Joanne Dean on 75 and Kim McCaw with 76 net.

After countback on 38 points, it was Kevin McCumstie who came out the winner when the men played Stableford on Wednesday.

NTP on the 18th was Norm Pyle.

Ball competition winners were Anthony Kable 38, Leo McNamara 36, and Bo Makkinga who had 34 stableford points.

Julie Gregory showed the rest up when she came in with 21 stableford points as winner of the nine hole competition on Thursday.

Ball competition winners were Leo McNamara 19 and Trevor McCaw with 13 points.

Friday was the Fish Day for March, when stableford was played.

Ryan Donkin, with 36 points, went home with the Catch of the Day.

Ball competition winners were Grant Wilson (35) and Rob Singleton (43).

Stableford was played in the Con Carr Betta Home Living Competition on Saturday.

Janet Delmenico had 30 points to take home the trophy for the women’s division.

In the men’s division, after a three way countback, it was John Taylor who carded 35 points and accepted the trophy.

NTP on the 18th went to Paul Pinnuck.

Ball competition winners were Paul Pinnuck and Leo McNamara on 35, and Sue Simpson with 28 stableford points.

Jerilderie

The Jerilderie ladies travelled to Narrandera on Thursday playing in their 4BBB Gala Day, with 60 golfers competing.

Ball winners were Julie Sleigh and Suz Graham.

Sunday was the Finley Men & Ladies Open tournaments, with 90 golfers playing in very hot conditions for this time of the year.

Results for Jerilderie players:

Men’s A-grade: Net winner David Hercus, 78/70.

Ladies B-grade: Scratch winner Denise Boland, 89/70.

Ladies C-grade: Scratch runner-up Julie Sleigh, 107/76.

For your diary, the first round of the Ladies Club Championships will be played on Sunday, April 16.

Entries are now being taken for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, to be held April 7 at Jerilderie Sports Club. It is filling up fast.

Friday's winner was Gail Browne and runner-up was Chris Kelly.

Saturday's winner was Doug Cameron (40-4-36), runner-up was Chris Cameron (42-5-37).

Ladies golf starts at 9.30am for a 10am tee off.

You can play nine or 18 holes, which is great if you are wanting to take part in golf on a Wednesday.

All are welcome to come and enjoy a Wednesday morning on the golf course.

This Sunday, March 26 is the IGA Golf Day.

There are great prizes for the winners.

Tuesday, March 14, was a full day for the ladies playing stroke for the monthly medal.

Eight players qualified for the Beryl Mawdsley Memorial singles knockout and round one of the Silver Spoon event, which will be played over the coming months.

Division 1: Shellei Clark net 71, R/U Maxine Sadler net 71, 3rd Janie Hills net 74.

Gross winner: Maxine Sadler 79.

Division 2: Joan Burns net 73, R/U Nat Beard net 73, 3rd Beth Muir net 75.
