In the Murray League, the Finley Cats’ senior footy and netball are almost mathematically out of the finals race, and would need the majority of results to go their way.
The Cats’ senior footy side do have momentum, winning their last match against Echuca United by 34 points and have won two of their last four.
The team will have a chance to get some scalps to end the year having only lost two games by more than three goals this season, showcasing their competitiveness against the entire competition.
There are clear sides to beat in the top level of Murray League footy and the netball.
Congupna is the only remaining undefeated team in the seniors footy, although in their last match they drew with Echuca United. They will be aiming to avenge a three point grand final loss last year to Cobram after going undefeated in the home and away season.
In the netball, Mulwala and Nathalia have each lost only one match this season, with Rumbalara beating Nathalia in their last match by one goal while the Purples got the better of Mulwala in their previous match-up by 11 goals.
However, in the other grades, the Cats’ reserves are well positioned in second place due to percentage with the same record as Cobram in first.
The under-14s footballers are also clear in second place and can prepare to give the finals a shake.
In the netball, Finley’s under-17s are on their own in fifth, while the C-reserve team are also set in fourth.
Other teams are a chance for finals, but will be fighting for the last remaining finals positions.
In the Picola League, a handful of local clubs will be competing to feature in the finals.
In the seniors' football, Berrigan and Jerilderie are in sixth and seventh respectively with seven wins and four losses.
Tocumwal have four wins in 12th and will be looking for an improved back end to the season, while Blighty will be looking for their first win in the next stint of fixtures starting against a Katunga side who have one win.
All teams will be chasing Katandra, who are the last remaining undefeated side, while Waaia, Strathmerton and Katamatite round out the top four.
In the A-grade netball, Tocumwal is best placed locally in fifth with nine wins and two losses.
Jerilderie, Berrigan and Blighty will be looking to build their win tallies, with the highest number of wins among them being three games.
Tungamah are the only undefeated team on top, while Dookie United, Katandra and Deni Rovers are on their tail in the top four.
The competition’s most recent additions, Barooga, are flying across the football grades, placed fifth in the senior football, third in reserves and are leading the under-17s and under-14s competitions.
The other teams best placed to feature in the top four in finals are Tocumwal’s under-13s and B-grade netballers in second and fourth, Jerilderie’s under-13s and under-17s netballers both in fifth, Barooga’s under-15s in fourth, C-reserve in fourth and C-grade netballers in fifth and Berrigan’s thirds footballers in fifth.
In the Farrer League, the Coly Blues have a bye this weekend with four rounds left for the senior teams, while South West Juniors teams will only have two rounds left until finals.
The Blues’ top four hopes currently include the under-18s footballers in third and the under-11s netballers in second.
