After 94 games playing for the pride of South Australia, former Shepparton Bears premiership player Jordon Butts sought a move home to Victoria ahead of the AFL’s free agency and trade period.
By Saturday, October 3, Butts’ decision as an unrestricted free agent sees the dependable defender land at the Kennel on a five-year deal.
The 26-year-old will begin his ninth AFL season in red, white and blue, and stated his eagerness to begin pre-season at his new club.
“I am super excited to be joining the Bulldogs and getting to meet all the boys over the coming weeks,” Butts said.
“I’m motivated to come into the club and make a difference, continuing to grow as a player and help the team wherever possible, working alongside some really talented individuals.
“There is a lot of excitement and optimism around the club at the moment and I couldn’t be more pleased to be a part of it as we chase success together.
“I’m extremely grateful to the Adelaide Football Club for allowing me to live out the dream of playing AFL football, meeting some great people and sharing amazing experiences in South Australia.”
Adelaide will receive a band three compensation selection for the National Draft, currently slated as Pick 33, in return for Butts’ departure.
Bulldogs list boss Michael Regan lauded the acquisition of Butts following the official signing.
"Jordon is a talented and competitive key defender who has proven he can negate and intercept against the best key forwards in the competition," Regan said.
"His skill-set complements our existing backline, and as a high-quality footballer and person, he'll add to our culture while giving himself and our defensive group the best chance to flourish."
Butts averaged 11 disposals, three intercept marks and five spoils a match from nine appearances in 2026.
