Raiders 42 defeated Pigeons 34
The top-of-the-table clash between the Pigeons and Raiders lived up to expectations on the weekend.
The Pigeons controlled the opening quarter with slick ball movement and relentless defensive pressure, racing to a five-goal lead at the first break.
The middle two quarters were much more evenly contested as the Raiders' defence lifted its intensity and discipline. Their pressure forced the Pigeons into some uncharacteristic turnovers and erratic passing, allowing the home side to work its way back into the contest.
After a demanding week on the training track, the Pigeons began to tire in the final term.
The Raiders dominated the quarter, recording a remarkable 19 scoring shots to the Pigeons' three to storm home and claim the win.
Despite the result, Maisee Pell continued her outstanding season, producing another composed performance at goal defence that showcased maturity well beyond her years.
The Pigeons will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Lavington and welcome the return of Gemma Muldoon from injury, whose presence was sorely missed in Saturday's clash.
Awards: Maisee Pell and Olivia Lovell.

Under 17s
Yarrawonga 25 def by Wodonga Raiders 59
The Under 17s faced the top team this week, going down 59–25, but the score doesn't reflect the significant improvement we've made since Round 1.
The girls started strongly, creating several turnovers through relentless defensive pressure. However, Raiders capitalised on their opportunities to take a nine-goal lead into the first break.
The second quarter was outstanding, with the girls matching the competition leaders’ goal for goal.
The connection between the shooters was excellent, and the team transitioned the ball down the court with confidence. The defensive pressure continued to create turnovers and gave us plenty of opportunities to attack.
Leni Ramsdale was outstanding in goalkeeper, dominating the defensive circle with her rebounding and ability to read the play. Her strong defensive effort earned her Best on Court, and it was a well-deserved recognition.
While the Raiders gradually extended their lead as the game wore on, there were plenty of positives to take away.
The improvement in our ball movement, defensive pressure and overall team connection since our Round 1 meeting with Raiders has been phenomenal.
The girls should be proud of the progress they've made and can take plenty of confidence into the remainder of the season.
Under 15s
Yarrawonga 26 def by Wodonga Raiders 54
The Yarrawonga Under 15s went down to the Wodonga Raiders, but the girls showed plenty of determination and never gave up throughout the match.
Best on court went to Ruby Driscoll, who was moved from her usual WA position into GD after an injury. Ruby stepped into the unfamiliar role, stayed composed, and worked hard to make an impact in defence.
A special mention goes to Rosie Lidgerwood, who had a strong game at GS. Rosie shot with great accuracy throughout the match, making the most of her opportunities and providing a reliable target in the goal circle.
While the result didn’t go the team’s way, the team continued to work hard and showed plenty of positives to build on heading into next week.
