Moama mauled by Tigers in another defeat

The Tigers wasted no time seizing the initiative in a devastating first-quarter, booting seven goals without reply as Moama posted one behind and trailed by 44 points at the first change.

The Magpies did get off the mark when they opened the second term with their first major, but the respite was momentary as Cobram reinstated its opening quarter dominance by booting five straight to close the half and lead 12.4 (76) to 1.3 (9).

Any chance of a miraculous second-half turnaround for Moama was immediately thwarted in the third quarter, the Tigers kicking four straight to open the term, which would prove their best of the afternoon, a total of nine majors to the Magpies’ two in the period.

Though the margin had reached triple figures entering the fourth quarter, that didn’t deter Cobram from being hungry for more goals, as Moama conceded another eight to close the game, adding only two of its own and ultimately being totally outmatched, 29.10 (184) to 5.8 (38).

The result is Moama’s largest defeat since a 91-point deficit it suffered at Congupna in round 11 last year, with the Magpies now slumping to a 1-4 record through five matches and sitting down in ninth on the ladder.

Next up Moama travels to take on Deniliquin, with both sides looking to rectify heavy defeats.
