Finley primary school student Lachlan Urquhart has been selected to represent NSW at the 2025 School Sport Australia 12 years Australian Football Championships.

It will be held in Maroochydore, Queensland, from Sunday, August 3 to Sunday, August 3.

Lachlan - who is in Year 6 at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Finley - earned his place as a member of the Mackillop AFL team at the 2025 NSWPSSA AFL Championships earlier this month.

He competed against many of the state’s most promising young athletes.

This is the second time Lachlan has been selected.

His team made it to the grand final but were beaten on the day, by a strong Riverina side.

Throughout the games, Lachlan’s game awareness and consistent performance caught the attention of the selectors, securing him a spot on the NSW team.

Lachlan has a passion and dedication for Australian football.

He loves to both watch and play the game, spending every day at school playing it with his mates.

This passion for the game continues after school when he attends training and plays games for the Finley Cats.

Before heading to Queensland, Lachlan and his teammates will travel to Sydney, where they will be officially presented with their NSW jumpers at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.

The School Sport Australia Championships are a prestigious national event that brings together the country’s top young Australian football players to compete, learn, and represent their state with pride

Lachlan’s family, coaches, friends and school community are very proud of the momentous achievement he has earned.

They say he is a supportive teammate who shows great sportsmanship on and off the field, and should be a valuable member of the state side.
