This was considered a ‘must win’ game for the Demons, coming into the middle part of the season.
Returning from a week off, Jerilderie started the first quarter slowly with Dookie kicking the first three goals of the game.
The second quarter showed some improvement with the midfield getting more use of the ball thanks to Zye Tredway dominating in the ruck.
Unfortunately some poor skills proved costly for Jerilderie. Luckily, Dookie’s inaccurate kicking kept the Dees in it at half time.
The second half played out similar to the first as Dookie were able to kick away in the last quarter to win by nearly six goals.
Final score: Jerilderie 4.12 (36) def by Dookie 9.17 (71).
Reserves
Jerilderie produced a determined four-quarter effort against Dookie in a hard-fought and physical contest,
The players showed a strong presence across the ground and matched Dookie in numerous tough one-on-one battles throughout the day.
While the final scoreboard didn’t accurately reflect the intensity and effort of the contest, our Dees never stopped competing and continued to pressure Dookie until the final siren.
With Dookie being the longest travel game, the club extends a huge thanks to everyone who made the effort to be there.
Final score: Jerilderie 1.3 (9) def by Dookie 13.10 (88).
Fourths
This was a challenging but highly spirited contest.
The first quarter didn't go to plan, with Dookie getting an early jump on the Dees and applying plenty of scoreboard pressure. As a result, the backline saw a lot of the football as Dookie raced out to a six-goal lead.
At the first break, the Dees reassessed their approach and made some adjustments to the game plan. The players responded brilliantly, lifting their defensive pressure around the contest and disrupting Dookie's free-flowing style of play.
The efforts limited Dookie to just two goals in the second quarter and created a much more contested, scrambling style of game.
The third quarter was another encouraging effort. The backline began providing more drive and run, linking up well with the midfield and moving the ball more effectively through the ground.
In the final quarter, players were challenged to attack the game by running in waves from defence right through to the forward line. The aim was to take advantage of Dookie’s tired legs and create opportunities to hit the scoreboard.
While unable to get the ball deep enough into the forward 50 to register a score, attacking intent, effort and determination was shown by the entire group.
Final score: Jerilderie 0.0 (0) def by Dookie 15.13 (103).
