The local legend announced his retirement from the game yesterday.
At this stage, with only a handful of games remaining in the season, Tom has 359 league games to his name, as well as 796 goals to go with his game tally.
Born in Finley, Tom played his junior footy for the mighty Finley Cats.
It seemed only fitting that he would play his league footy at the Geelong Cats, where his father ‘Jumping’ Jack Hawkins also plied his craft at Cardinia Park through the 1970s.
Tom attended St Joseph’s Primary in Finley and attended both Finley High School and Melbourne Grammar.
Playing his footy at Melbourne Grammar, Sandrigham Dragons and for NSW/ACT, Tom was eventually offered a father/son selection in the 2006 national AFL draft.
A highly touted key forward from that draft, Tom has gone on to tick every box that the league and its watchers on had set for him.
Tom has gone onto to become a three time premiership player for Geelong Football Club, five time All-Australian, 11 time Geelong leading goal kicker, a Carji Greeves medallist and a Coleman medallist.
It is the mark of the man knowing he could have another almost 300 goals to his name, rather, he has dished out more than 290 goal assists across his career, with over 2100 score involvements since 2012.
Hawkins is a team player who is loved by his Geelong teammates.
