Echuca reserves the right to perfection

There always seemed to be the extra man around the stoppage and Echuca routinely found the open player inside 50, feasting on set shots from good positions.

Shepparton simply had no answer to a first-half barrage and Echuca took the title 14.14 (98) to 8.10 (58), earning a perfect season in the grade.

“(Being undefeated) puts pressure on going in today,” co-coach Troy Murphy said.

“You're just so proud to spend so much time with all the boys over a long period.

“You see them all grow up and they're just amazing young men now, and I couldn't be prouder of them than what I am, it was fantastic.”

The depth of talent was exhibited not just by the scoreline, but by the versatility of the attack, with 14 goals scored by eight different players.

“We had probably a dozen senior footballers out there today and potentially of the other 10 they could all play senior footy, so that's a real bonus,” Murphy said.

“We've had eight blokes miss out that are just genuine good fellas and good blokes to have around and genuine good footballers that just couldn't quite fit in today.”

Luke Edwards was one of two players to kick three and was named best-on-ground and best in finals, Murphy crediting him among many others in the squad, who do their duty whether they are called on for the seniors or reserves.

“The boys who come back all year they just keep coming back and fronting up and they don't drop their head,” he said.

“They just keep going and they've just been amazing.

“They miss out on a senior game, they come back and play really well in the reserves and not one of them have dropped their head all year, so great effort.”
