This follows the announcement of public submissions opening nationally on the review on Tuesday, April 23.
The consultations — to be held in Benalla and Rochester on May 3 — will allow the Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee to more closely examine the experiences of people in regional, rural, and remote parts of Australia with telecommunications delivery, as well as considering the unique needs of First Nations communities.
Input from the public has been essential in previous reviews to ensure the Committee’s recommendations hit the mark in terms of improving communication outcomes in communities.
“With the public submission process now under way and our visit to Victoria locked in, there are options there for people to have their say — and access to decent telecommunications is critical for regional residents and businesses across so many aspects of everyday life,” review chair Alannah MacTiernan said.
“We want to understand what people across regional and remote Australia experience in the delivery of voice and broadband services, and what the issues are that impact them.
“With technology changing rapidly, we also want your ideas about how it can be improved and what would make the most difference for you and your community. I am keen to see Victorians come to this face-to-face consultation, to hear about their issues.”
Community members who can’t attend the face-to-face consultation will be able to provide a formal submission or complete a survey. The survey will be published in May.
