It’s part of Yarrawonga Football Netball Club’s campaign this week on violence against women.
At 12.45pm this Saturday, when the Pigeons host the Wodonga Raiders, there will be an entire Yarrawonga Football Netball Club photograph on the netball court of all 120 players.
Representatives from local, state, and federal government tiers will attend Saturday’s matches.
On the night of the club’s Thursday night dinner, a guest speaker will address the club on the subject of violence against women. Among politicians to attend will be Sam Birrell and Tim McCurdy, and Moira Shire administrators.
Centre Against Violence’s Bec Jones, will address not only the players, but all in attendance, regarding the work she and her team perform and how we as a community can assist.
“It is as a community standing up to this issue as one, publicly declaring and committing that family violence will not be condoned, it will not be ignored, and it will not be tolerated. But, any change, starts with us/you.” - Yarrawonga Football Netball Club President Ross Mulquiney.
“We want to try and leverage Yarrawonga Football Netball Club’s respected leaders together, showing that violence against women has no place in our community,” club president Ross Mulquiney said.
“Following the most recent series of events of family violence, the Pigeons reached out to local family violence services, in an effort to see what it could do to assist.
“The YFNC in partnership with the Centre Against Violence (https://www.facebook.com/centreagainstviolence ), will this week seek to continue to put a spotlight on this issue.
“It is as a community standing up to this issue as one, publicly declaring and committing that family violence will not be condoned, it will not be ignored, and it will not be tolerated. But, any change, starts with us/you.
“Finally, this Saturday the Pigeons call upon all patrons to the game to wear white as a mark of support and solidarity for the victims of family violence,” Mr Mulquiney concluded.
