Jan Cathcart Scholarship applications for 2023 are now open, offering women the opportunity to help shape the Australian rice industry.
The scholarship winner to receive up to $30,000 financial assistance for tertiary study, significant opportunities for work experience and employment placement in the rice industry.
Applications close on November 7, with the winner to be announced in early 2023.
Through the scholarship, SunRice Group is continuing its commitment to invest in opportunities for educational pathways for the next generation of female leaders in the Australian rice industry.
It is open to women involved in the Australian rice industry and its related agricultural networks.
It offers financial assistance valued at $10,000 a year for up to three years of tertiary study.
Now in its eighth year, the scholarship honours the late Jan Cathcart and her invaluable contribution to the rice industry during her 43-year career with the company.
SunRice Group chairman Laurie Arthur said the scholarship plays an important role in developing talented women who are passionate about shaping the Australian rice industry.
“Through the scholarship we are able to honour Jan’s memory by investing in the future of the rice industry, offering financial support and industry expertise to women who are looking to follow in Jan’s footsteps,” Mr Arthur said.
“Over time we have also seen the previous recipients gain valuable experience within the SunRice Group and across the broader industry, and form a strong alumnae network which offers mutual support and encouragement.”
The Scholarship is open to female SunRice Group shareholders, growers and employees and their extended families.
Women from across the rice industry’s networks are also encouraged to apply, or to nominate other eligible women who would benefit from the program.
Eligible students include those currently studying at university or new students attending their first year of tertiary studies in 2023.
