“Shepparton cannot wait any longer,” Ms Lovell said.
The Liberal MP has raised the issue 32 times in parliament since 2016.
The current Shepparton Sports Stadium has served the community for over 50 years, but the ageing facility no longer has the capacity to meet current demand, according to multiple local voices.
“We need a new stadium that will serve our children now and long into the future and allow them to keep participating in sports as the city grows,” she said.
Greater Shepparton City Council and Committee for Greater Shepparton have both identified an upgraded Shepparton Sports & Events Centre as a key election priority.
An information booklet from council said the project would create lasting social and economic benefits, cementing Greater Shepparton as a premier regional destination for sports and events.
C4GS has framed a potential upgrade as an improvement to liveability in Greater Shepparton, which is an important factor in retaining the workforce it said the region needs to attract.
The project is seeking a $12 million contribution from the state government towards a $37 million total, which will also receive contributions from Greater Shepparton City Council and the Federal Government.
