A wholly volunteer organisation, the society stages three events each year.
The group hosted its Poultry Auction in March, which was a huge success due to the committee and community members contributing their time across many roles, such as auctioneering, office work, the barbecue and animal husbandry.
But there’s no time for a rest, with preparations well underway for the Three-Sheep Dog Trials held over the June long weekend, June 7 to 9.
And then it’s all systems go for the 106th annual Finley Show to be held on Father’s Day, Sunday, September 1.
The Three-Sheep Dog Trials attract competitors from around NSW and Victoria, with a few competitors sometimes even making the trek from Tasmania, Queensland and Western Australia.
Volunteers will be busy ensuring the event runs smoothly, including catering for competitors and spectators.
As plans for the Finley Show continue, the Show Society team attend monthly meetings in preparation, as well as holding working bees and street stalls.
This is all to ensure the longest-running community event continues to bring the community and district together for a fun-filled family day out.
“I would like to thank all who volunteer in any capacity towards any of our events, giving up their time to contribute. It does not go unnoticed,” president Kevin Sexton said.
“Without the support of our committee and band of volunteers, events like ours can’t happen. If you’re looking to give back to the community that provides for your family, I highly recommend you give your time towards volunteering.”
The Finley Show Society committee always welcomes new members and volunteers.
If you’re interested in finding out more, head to the Finley Show Society website or Facebook page, or have a chat to a committee member the next time your pass them in the street.
