Tomorrow they take on Yarroweyah, who have had a winless start to the season.
Rovers’ senior coach Alex Hay said there were a number of positives to take away from the team’s close match with Rennie, that will be put into action in coming rounds.
Despite Rennie’s fightback in the third quarter, the side stuck to their game plan.
“Last week’s game against Rennie was really pleasing in many aspects.
“Coming up against a really match-hardened side with some good individual players had a few challenges, especially given we are a young side.
“The focus was to try and keep the game open and minimise congestion around the ground, and when we were able to run and carry, we had the game on our terms.
“When we were challenged in the third quarter, I was really impressed with our ability to respond and kick away in the last quarter.”
Away this week at Yarroweyah, the Rovers will be expected to prove their form against what Hay called an “evolving team”.
“Although they have had a challenging start, Yarroweyah have had a rapid change in personnel.
“We know that can take a few weeks to click, and I’m very conscious of that.
“A team that has been starved of wins can be really dangerous if we are off by five percent, and could make it a really tough day, especially on their home ground.
Hay said the team will continue to focus on their pressure across the ground.
“Our focus will be continuing with our team defence and putting pressure on the ball to create some turnovers in our forward half.”
Hay said the side is keen to introduce key position player Hayden Barker into the senior lineup.
“We will welcome Hayden back in, which is exciting.
“He is crucial to the way that we set up the ground and is a great leader within the group, which is starting to take shape.“
