Chris reported that, in addition to the usual community donations, the club had worked hard during the year to raise visibility of domestic violence. It will continue with the purple shirt promotion by businesses, which is much appreciated.
The Rotary Club is still the collection point for unneeded mobile phones, which will be repurposed and made available to sufferers of domestic violence. Anyone who has an old mobile phone tucked away in a cupboard can donate it by contacting any member of the club.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) to Bruce Atkinson. Established in 1957 to honour Rotary's founder, Paul Harris, this recognition is given to Rotarians to acknowledge outstanding effort and unselfish contribution to the community, thus exemplifying the motto ‘Service Above Self’.
