A significant change is on the cards for Hamilton Street in Rutherglen as Indigo Shire Council proposes to permanently close the unsealed southern section to vehicular traffic, at the Main Street intersection.
Under the proposal, vehicular access along Hamilton Street would still be possible, but the closure would permanently restrict vehicles from entering and exiting Hamilton Street at the Main Street intersection.
Pedestrian and cyclist access would be maintained.
Council has consulted with adjacent landowners and emergency services and is now seeking feedback from the community.
Anyone wishing to make a submission on the proposal must do so in writing by 5pm on August 10, 2026.
